This 18kt yellow gold eternity ring is set all the way round with rubies, in size 54. An eternity ring set entirely with coloured stones is considerably harder to build than one with diamonds. With white stones you match clarity; with rubies you match the hue, and every ruby turns out differently. Why is a ruby eternity ring more demanding than a diamond one?
Because of the colour matching. White diamonds of the same quality grade look practically identical. Rubies vary in hue and saturation from stone to stone. For a calm, unbroken ring, each one has to be selected individually and sorted into its place in the row.
Can ruby handle everyday wear?
Yes, better than almost any other coloured stone. Ruby is corundum with a Mohs hardness of 9, just below diamond. That is exactly why it works in a ring set all the way round, where stones also sit on the palm side and knock against things all the time.
What does eternity mean for the size?
Set all the way round means it cannot be resized. The stones sit exactly where material would otherwise be removed to enlarge it. The ring exists in size 54. If you need a different size, I'll make it anew for you.
