This choker carries 33 multicolour Ming cultured pearls between 11.5 and 13.5 mm, set in 18kt gold. Ming pearls are freshwater cultured pearls from China, grown around a round nucleus. That gives them the size and roundness of saltwater pearls with an exceptionally thick layer of nacre. The colour gradient comes without any dye, purely from the natural lustre of each pearl. Because every pearl has grown on its own, no two necklaces are alike, so the colour gradient, lustre and shape of your necklace will differ slightly from the photo. Handmade in Munich. €1,200.

What are Ming pearls?
Freshwater cultured pearls with a round nucleus, grown in China. The nucleus and a long growing period produce a thick layer of nacre, far thicker than on Akoya pearls, where the nacre often measures only a few tenths of a millimetre.
Are the colours natural?
Yes. The gradient across white, rosé, lavender and bronze comes from the nacre itself. Dyed pearls usually show one evenly saturated colour without transitions, and traces of dye in the drill holes.
How do I care for pearls?
Put them on last, take them off first. Perfume, hairspray and acids attack nacre. Wipe them with a soft cloth after wearing, store them flat and never put them in an ultrasonic cleaner.
