This 18kt yellow gold ring carries a mandarin garnet accompanied by parti sapphires, in size 54. Mandarin garnet is a spessartine coloured by manganese. Its vivid orange was only found in gem quality in 1991, in Namibia, and since then it has been one of the most sought-after garnets of all. Unlike most coloured stones it is not treated: the orange is exactly as it comes out of the ground. Alongside it sit parti sapphires with their multicoloured zones. Handmade in Munich. €3,800, a one-of-a-kind piece.
Orange like a flame. The mandarin garnet has no equal.

Frequently asked questions
What is a mandarin garnet?
A spessartine garnet in a strong orange, coloured by manganese. The name comes from the colour of the mandarin. The first stones of this intensity came from Namibia in the early nineties, later also from Nigeria and Mozambique.
Is the stone treated?
No. Garnets are among the few coloured stones that are practically never heated or irradiated, because their colour cannot be improved that way.
Why parti sapphires alongside it?
Parti sapphires show several colour zones within one crystal, often with touches of yellow and green. Next to the saturated orange of the garnet they bring movement into the colour scheme instead of repeating it.
