Frequently asked questions
What is verdelite?
The trade name for green tourmaline. Its colour comes from iron and ranges from light olive to deep bottle green. With a Mohs hardness of 7 to 7.5, tourmaline is fine for everyday wear, but softer than sapphire.
Why do tourmalines vary so much in colour?
Because tourmaline is not a single mineral species but a group with an exceptionally variable composition. The elements taken up during growth decide the colour, and in some crystals it even changes along their length.
Are drop earrings harder to wear than studs?
They move with you, so you notice them more, but at this weight they are no trouble for a whole evening. What matters is a secure fastening: with drop earrings, the hold at the earlobe is the only point that counts.
