This ring combines 18kt white gold and 18kt yellow gold around a blue sapphire, flanked by 12 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 0.12 ct, in size 54. The two gold colours are a decision made for the stone: white gold right at the setting keeps the blue cool and clear, while the yellow gold beneath brings warmth to the hand. Soldering both into one piece demands a precise sequence, because the alloys react differently to heat. Handmade in Munich. €2,400, a one-of-a-kind piece.

Blue as the sky, set in two golds.

Frequently asked questions

Why two gold colours?
Because they affect the stone differently. White gold intensifies cool colours, yellow gold warms them. Combined in one piece, the sapphire gets both: clear colour on top, warm contrast against the hand.

Is two-tone more demanding to make?
Yes. Two alloys have slightly different melting points. The soldering sequence has to be right, otherwise a joint that is already finished comes loose again. Once the piece is polished, there is hardly any room for corrections.

Does the ring hold up to everyday wear?
Well. Sapphire is corundum with a Mohs hardness of 9, which makes it the hardest gemstone after diamond. Neither the white nor the yellow gold wears faster; both belong to the same alloy class, with 750 parts fine gold.
