The Georgia Ring in 18kt white gold holds a morganite in a serti dressé setting: the stone stands upright on its edge instead of lying flat, held at just two points. Light passes through it from behind. With a translucent stone like morganite, that is the whole point; with an opaque one, the setting would be wasted. Morganite is the pink variety of beryl, related to emerald and aquamarine. A one-of-a-kind piece in size 54, handmade in Munich. €6,900.
A ring that carries history, and tells it anew.

Frequently asked questions
What is a serti dressé setting?
A setting in which the stone stands upright on its edge instead of lying flat. It is held at just two opposite points and stays open on both sides. Light passes through it instead of only bouncing off the surface, which is why the technique suits translucent stones so well.
Why is this more demanding than a standard setting?
Because the two seats have to lie exactly on one axis. In a prong setting, four prongs even out small inaccuracies; here there is nothing to even out. If one seat is off by a tenth of a millimetre, the stone stands crooked and you see it at once.
What is morganite?
The pink variety of the mineral beryl, coloured by manganese and named in 1911 after the collector J. P. Morgan. With a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8, it is suitable for everyday wear. It belongs to the same mineral family as emerald and aquamarine: different trace elements, different colour.
Is the ring also available in rose gold?
The rose gold version is sold. It took the warmer route: more copper in the metal, a softer tone beneath the stone. It can be made again as a bespoke commission, though the morganite would be a different one.
Can size 54 be changed?
With this setting, only to a very limited extent. Send me your size before you order and I'll tell you what is possible.
